Diane’s story: how plasma donation changed her life

March 13, 2025

Diane, a nurse from Alabama, spent much of her life battling recurring illnesses that seemed to have no clear cause

Her health struggles didn’t just affect her personal life, but also her professional life in the healthcare field. It wasn’t until 2019, after years of wrong diagnoses and ineffective treatments, that Diane was finally diagnosed with Primary Immunodeficiency (PID), a rare condition that prevents the immune system from functioning properly.

A long and difficult journey

From a young age, Diane faced recurring infections, surgeries, and illnesses that seemed never-ending. Despite her struggles, she became a nurse, but continued to feel unwell, often due to the very environments she worked in to help others. Her life felt like a constant battle against illness, but she didn’t understand what was truly going wrong in her body. She didn’t know that the cause of her health problems was a severe deficiency in her immune system.

The discovery of her diagnosis

The real turning point came when Diane started working in the infusion industry, where she learned about the signs of Primary Immunodeficiency (PID). Discovering that she exhibited six of the ten warning signs, Diane decided to undergo further tests. Finally, in 2019, she received the PID diagnosis. This explained all of her health struggles and provided her with a clear treatment path.

With the diagnosis, Diane began therapy with immunoglobulins, a plasma-derived treatment that provides the antibodies her body can’t produce. Since then, Diane has noticed significant improvements: she rarely gets sick and has more vitality than she ever thought possible.

The power of plasma donation

Diane’s story highlights the incredible impact that plasma donations can have. Every donation helps provide life-changing medications for patients with immune conditions like Diane’s.

With emotion and gratitude, Diane deeply thanks those who donate plasma:

Because of you, I can live without limitations. Thanks to your generosity, I receive the treatment I need to stay healthy and free. Your body does something mine can’t, and I’m deeply grateful“.
